Big News!!!!!

Big changes are coming

Big news for our club from our President Peter O'Connor
Good afternoon all

I am delighted to confirm today is a historic day in the Club’s history with confirmation of bipartisan funding commitment and support for a total redevelopment of the Club’s facilities.

This afternoon Labor announced a commitment of $3.5m which follows the earlier Liberal Party commitment of $3m. This funding on top of a $2+m commitment from the City of Kingston assures us of new facilities, regardless of the outcome of the forthcoming State Election.

Whilst all parties appreciate some additional ‘top-up’ funding will be required to achieve the preferred design, we are off to a flying start with what is already on the table. Further work with the party that forms Government after the election and Council will occur as soon as possible to avoid any ongoing delay in the process.

This commitment is unprecedented in the Club’s history and bodes well for the future development of a ‘truly integrated’ Edithvale Aspendale Sporting Club, encapsulating Football, Cricket, Netball and Tennis, across all age and gender groups. This will require structural and constitutional change with a consolidated governance structure that ensures ‘we act as one’ and capitalise on the commercial and sporting opportunities the new facility will provide. A discussion paper on this component will be distributed in the coming months, as a catalyst to formal decision making by the respective clubs in the early part of next year.

We will soon be in a position to release the plans of the new facility, that all clubs have contributed to and agreed upon. It is an outstanding building that includes contemporary facilities for all sporting disciplines, respects the environmental issues of the precinct, caters for concurrent activities across disciplines, ages and gender and provides outstanding spectator and function room facilities. I’m sure you will be as impressed as we are, when we are in a position to publicly release the plans.

I am sure you will join me in welcoming this news and thank the respective political parties and their representatives for the support and commitment. We wish both Tim Richardson and Geoff Gledhill the very best in their endeavours to represent the Mordialloc electorate at the forthcoming election. We also thank Council for their ongoing support.

This is exciting news and I look forward to your ongoing support as we embark on this historic journey in the Club’s history.

Regards

Peter O’Connor
