Lock it in: Lockwood coaching Under 17 team

EDITHVALE Aspendale Junior Football Club has landed a recruiting coup, appointing Southern Football League interleague coach Ben Lockwood to steer its Under 17 side.

Lockwood has been a senior coach at Mordialloc, East Malvern and Chelsea Heights and for the past two seasons has coached the SFL representative side with success.

Lockwood lives in Mordialloc with his wife Sharon and three daughters, who are all involved in sport, and he is looking forward to helping the Edi-Asp juniors.

“I am looking forward to an enjoyable year ahead,’’ he said.

“While there will be a focus on results — this will be driven by the boys — for the season my main goal is to ensure the boys have an introduction to the training requirements, fitness levels and game knowledge for senior football for next year and beyond.”

EAJFC has also joined forces with the Simon Black AFL Academy.

It will work with Black and his team to teach and further develop their players and coaches.

The club’s girls teams are expanding, with plans to field an U12, U14, U16 and maybe U10 teams.
