Vale Kevin Lyons
Edithvale Aspendale Sporting Club would like to pass on its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Edithvale-Aspendale Life Member Kevin Lyons, who passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, March 6, 2019.
Kevin was the twin brother of Mornington Peninsula Football League (MPFL) Life Member Ken Lyons, who passed away in June 2012.
Edi-Asp Football Club President Peter O’Connor said Kevin’s family and friends had lost one of life’s true gentlemen.
“Kevin was an upstanding member of the Edithvale-Aspendale community for a very long time, a Life-Member of the club and will be sadly missed,” O’Connor said.
“He played many roles at the club and was always involved in some capacity. He was heavily involved in the ‘Old Boys’ club that would gather on a Friday night for a drink. On behalf of the club, I would like to pass on our condolences to his family.”
Edi-Asp Netball Club President Helen Hollis said Kevin was respected by all at the club.
“He played football back in the ‘50s and described himself to me as a good honest two’s player,” Hollis said.
“Kevin was always there to support the club and lend a hand and was a wonderful supporter of netball. He would even babysit while the mums were out playing netball and has loved handing out the premiership medals to our players over the years.
“He would give every player a kiss and congratulate them. He was a true gentleman, a great supporter of the club and will be sadly missed by everyone at Edithvale-Aspendale.”
In 2017 the netball club struck an award in his honour – The Kevin Lyon’s Leadership Award.
The Edi-Asp Netball Club posted this message on its Facebook page:
The name Lyons casts a huge shadow on many in regard to the support and effort the family has shown to Edithvale Aspendale. Kev you were a Giant at the club, so many memories I have from crying with you after our ’89 flag, to watching you congratulate the 2013 boys, tears of pride in your eyes.
Say g’day to Ken, we will send you off in style! Carn Dales!!!
Kevin's funeral will be held at St Brigid’s Church, Mordialloc on Thursday, March 14th at 11am, followed by a farewell lap of the football ground and refreshments at the Ken Lyons Pavilion, EAFC, Regents Park, Sixth Avenue, Aspendale.
